The truth is like surgery, it cuts, but it cures. Lana Turner
How does it happen that something that makes so much sense in the moonlight doesn’t make any sense in the sunlight. - Lana Turner
I want a man who has the brains to be satisfied with only me. - Lana Turner

Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced. - Lucille Ball
It's hard to believe that the Queen of Comedy had some very deep quotes (see above) and these...
Politics should be the part-time profession of every citizen who would protect the rights and privileges of free people and who would preserve what is good and fruitful in our national heritage. - Lucille Ball
I think knowing what you cannot do is more important than knowing what you can do. - Lucille Ball
I would rather regret the things that I have done than the things that I have not. - Lucille Ball
Here are two fun ones...
The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age. - Lucille Ball
A man who correctly guesses a woman's age may be smart, but he's not very bright. - Lucille Ball
Side note 1: I selected Angelology by Danille Trussoni from the delivery to be read first. So far it's great - had to stop myself at 125 pages so I can savor it. I find if I rush through and read it all in one or two days I get sad when the story is over.
Side Note 2: I've just noticed that I seem to be drawn to the photos of actress smoking - it looks so glamourous but of course it reality it is not...

I find television to be very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go in the other room and read a book. ~Groucho Marx
As I arrived home there was a big box on my front deck. A box full of books I ordered as a package deal - you know buy 7 books for $1.00 and buy 2 in the next year.
So which one should I dive into first?
Under the Dome - Stephen King
Remarkable Creatures - Tracy Chevalier
Days of Gold - Jude Deveraux
Angelology - Danielle Trussoni
The Swan Thieves - Elizabeth Kostova
The Lost Symbol - Dan Brown
American Folktales - edited by Lesile Conron

It's not true I had nothing on, I had the radio on. - Marilyn Monroe
If I'd observed all the rules, I'd never have got anywhere.
Marilyn Monroe
What do I wear in bed? Why, Chanel No. 5, of course.
Marilyn Monroe
To put it bluntly, I seem to have a whole superstructure with no foundation. But I'm working on the foundation.
Marilyn Monroe
Hollywood is a place where they'll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul. Marilyn Monroe
Yes - that's Marilyn Monroe on the cover of Poets&Writers reading James Joyce.

Love is a fire. But whether it is going to warm your hearth or burn down your house, you can never tell. Joan Crawford
Joan Crawford-
I am just too much.
Joan Crawford
I believe in the dollar. Everything I earn, I spend!
Joan Crawford
I need sex for a clear complexion, but I'd rather do it for love.
Joan Crawford
Women's Lib? Poor little things. They always look so unhappy. Have you noticed how bitter their faces are?
Joan Crawford
Look, there`s nothing wrong with my t_ts, but I don`t go around throwing them in people`s faces! (Crawford, criticizing Marilyn Monroe)

"Any girl can look glamorous... just stand there and look stupid" Doris Day
My Mom had this album and as a little girl I'd pretend to be dressed in this blue gown and I would sing into a hair brush as Doris Day sang.
Here are some of her quotes...
The really frightening thing about middle age is that you know you'll grow out of it! - Doris Day
Middle age is youth without levity, and age without decay. - Doris Day
Gratitude is riches. Complaint is poverty. - Doris Day
and my most favorite...
If it's true that men are such beasts, this must account for the fact that most women are animal lovers. - Doris Day

"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and
for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are that you are never alone."
Audrey Hepburn
Today's starlet is Audrey Hepburn. I adored her in My Fair Lady.
I'm not stacked like Sophia Loren or Gina Lollobrigida, but I don't need a bedroom to prove my womanliness - Audrey Hepburn
Sex appeal is something you feel deep down inside. I can convey as much fully clothed, picking apples off a tree or standing in the rain - Audrey Hepburn
I need a lot of loving, being loved and giving love. Love does not terrify me, but the going-away of it does - Audrey Hepburn
My mother is Dutch, my father is Irish and I was born in Belgium, if I was a dog I'd be in a right mess - Audrey Hepburn
On a writing note with the inspiration from the most recent episode of Lost (thank you Sawyer) I've been able to complete the first love scene in Love By Design.

I wish I were supernaturally strong so I could put right everything that is wrong - Greta Garbo
Today is Greta Garbo - one of the few actress who made the transition from silent film to 'talkies'.
Here are some of her quotes...
Is there anything better than to be longing for something, when you know it is within reach? - Greta Garbo
There seems to be a law that governs all our actions so I never make plans. - Greta Garbo
I never said, 'I want to be alone.' I only said, 'I want to be left alone.' There is all the difference. - Greta Garbo
I'm afraid of nothing except being bored. - Greta Garbo
Life would be so wonderful if we only knew what to do with it. Greta Garbo
There are many things in your heart you can never tell to another person. They are you, your private joys and sorrows, and you can never tell them. You cheapen yourself, the inside of yourself, when you tell them. - Greta Garbo

"When the sun comes up, I have morals again.” Elizabeth Taylor
Here are some of my favorite quotes uttered by Elizabeth Taylor:
"The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues."
"I've only slept with men I've been married to. How many women can make that claim?”
"Big girls need big diamonds."
"Some of my best leading men have been dogs and horses."
"Richard is a very sexy man. He's got that sort of jungle essence that one can sense." (on Richard Burton)”
"I know I'm vulgar, but would you have me any other way?"

For the loot, honey, for the loot - Ava Gardner
In Love By Design I have a secondary character named after this famous starlet. Here are some quotes I think she might use at some point in the story and reference the actress -
I think the main reason my marriages failed is that I always loved too well but never wisely.
Some people say Liz (Taylor)and I are whores, but we are saints. We do not hide our loves hypocritically, and when in love, we are loyal and faithful to our men. [On the subject of her multiple marriages]”
When I lose my temper, honey, you can`t find it any place.
I wish to live until 150 years old but the day I die, I wish it to be with a cigarette in one hand and a glass of whiskey in the other.

"I think your whole life shows in your face and you should be proud of that.” Lauren Bacall
Since she was honored at the Oscars last night, my next actress is Lauren Bacall.
Here are some of her quotes:
Generally women are better than men -- they have more character. I prefer men for some things, obviously, but women have a greater sense of honor and are more willing to take a chance with their lives.”
Lauren Bacall
You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow.”
Lauren Bacall
The purity of Jewish upbringing is the restrictions that one carries through life being a "nice Jewish girl" -- what a burden!”
Lauren Bacall
If I'm a legend, I'm dead. Do you want me to be dead? Legends are of the past.
Lauren Bacall

Everything you see I owe to spaghetti - Sophia Loren
Yeah, I'm starting the spaghetti diet PRONTO! Sophia Loren is a timeless beauty. Class all the way. Here are some of my favorite quotes by Sophia....
A woman's dress should be like a barbed-wire fence: serving its purpose without obstructing the view.
Sophia Loren
Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical.
Sophia Loren
Sex appeal is fifty percent what you've got and fifty percent what people think you've got.
Sophia Loren
Spaghetti can be eaten most successfully if you inhale it like a vacuum cleaner.
Sophia Loren
There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.
Sophia Loren
Stop by Sunday where I will reveal the dress I would be wearing to the Oscars to pick up my Best Screenplay Adapted from a Novel award - you know if I actually wrote one - and went on that spaghetti diet.

If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun - Katharine Hepburn
Katharine Hepburn is a favorite of mine. In crisis I might think WWKD (what would kate do?) - except of course have an affair with a married man - but besides that then yes - WWKD - Here are some of my favorite quotes from Katharine...
Sometimes I wonder if men and women really suit each other. Perhaps they should live next door and just visit now and then.
If you survive long enough, you're revered - rather like an old building.
I don't care what is written about me so long as it isn't true.
The average Hollywood film star's ambition is to be admired by an American, courted by an Italian, married to an Englishman and have a French boyfriend.
I never realized until lately that women were supposed to be the inferior sex.
Gotta love Kate.

Old age is no place for sissies. - Bette Davis
Back to my starlets famous quote series. Todays post is Bette Davis. Here are some of my favorites by her....
Gay Liberation? I ain't against it, it's just that there's nothing in it for me.
I'd marry again if I found a man who had fifteen million dollars, would sign over half to me, and guarantee that he'd be dead within a year.
I've no time for broads who want to rule the world alone. Without men, who'd do up the zipper on the back of your dress?
I'm the nicest goddamn dame that ever lived
Three years ago I was forty... forty! Four-oh! That slipped out. Now I suddenly feel as if I've taken all my clothes off.
Which is your favorite?
