"I think your whole life shows in your face and you should be proud of that.” Lauren Bacall
Since she was honored at the Oscars last night, my next actress is Lauren Bacall.
Here are some of her quotes:
Generally women are better than men -- they have more character. I prefer men for some things, obviously, but women have a greater sense of honor and are more willing to take a chance with their lives.”
Lauren Bacall
You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow.”
Lauren Bacall
The purity of Jewish upbringing is the restrictions that one carries through life being a "nice Jewish girl" -- what a burden!”
Lauren Bacall
If I'm a legend, I'm dead. Do you want me to be dead? Legends are of the past.

It's hard to believe was only 19 in "To Have and Have Not" when she played Slim opposite Humphrey Bogart and uttered the unforgettable, "You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve..." Great line, but what would you expect when your screenwriters are William Faulkner and Jules Furthman?
ReplyDeleteBacall's comment the other night, when accepting her special lifetime achievment academy award, was sooooooo deliciously, typically Bacall:
"The thought that when I get home I'm going to have a two-legged man in my room is so exciting."
At 85 still going strong.
That was so funny! Loved it!
ReplyDeletewe should all be so lucky when we get to that age!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lauren....women are better than men!
ReplyDeleteLauren Bacall on Twitter, tweeting about the Oscars!
ReplyDeleteSaw what I did at the red carpet (a tattooed gum chewing woman with too much cleavage and a man in snekears).
Enough of me being a negative Nancy, its just that I am glad I got to see the Oscars of the 40s & 50s.Grace Kelly would have died if she...
I am just glad Avatar didn't win or I would have had to drop my membership.I voted for Precious but The Hurt Locker was my 2nd choice.
Let's see what else, oh yes why do starlets today have such bad posture? That Montana girl and that Twilight girl slouch like potato sacks.
...Repulsion (1965), The Masque of the Red Death (1964) or The Black Cat (1934) which I didn't see at all and thats just unfogivible.
Also Why was Twilight in the horror montage? They could have made room for horror masterpieaces like Freaks (1932), Eraserhead (1977)...
Agreed - the starlets of today got nothing
