What I did on my summer vacation - 2015

I'll be holding onto summer for a few more days but...

I went to the Train concert up at Bethel Woods (original Woodstock Site) with my niece Kristen. We had the VIP experience. 4th row and met some of the guys in the band. I also went to see Florida Georgia Line with another niece. No VIP tickets - redneck seats on the lawn - LOL!

I attended the Romance Writers of America conference and signed books at the Literacy Book Fair.

Then I spent a week at Pt. Pleasant with my sister! It was a perfect beach weather.

Here are a couple of pics...

A dress makes no sense unless it inspires men to want to take it off you. ~Françoise Sagan

I don't own many dresses. But I do have a lot of clothes. Too many. Too many that I never wear. So much so that I have spread out to my husband closet. But he is resigned to this and besides it gives him a reason to tease me.
But on a recent snow day I pulled EVERYTHING out of my closet.

I wiped down the closet and vacuumed the floor. Then I began the tedious process of deciding what to throw out and what to keep. I had to face hard facts... the leopard print mid thigh skirt looked super cute ....in my THIRTIES. I haven't worn the skirt in more than a decade. REALLY? Why am I keeping it?

Anyway, here is the result. The bag in the corner there is what I'm giving to the nearest clothing charity bin. Not bad. But not enough to give up my space in my husband's closet.

Is there a piece of clothing you just won't give up on?

Favorite Movie Couples

I read Woman's World magazine each week. Oh, I tell myself I don't have the time but then there is always an article that catches my eye as I walk by the magazine racks at the supermarket. Like - What special beer cures insomnia or lose 16lbs this week but then they have a yummy cake recipe made with Baileys further along in the issue. Yeah, I'm more likely to gain 16 pounds. Still, I love the magazine.

In an issue from February they had a personality insight quiz - What does you favorite movie couple say about you?

If you love
Edward and Bella ( Twilight ) - You're an imaginative artiste.
Rhett and Scarlett  ( Gone with the Wind) You're a persistent optimist
Jack and Rose ( Titanic ) You're a dynamic romantic.
Margaret and Andrew ( The Proposal ) You're a passionate label-defier.
Sally and Harry ( When Harry Met Sally ) You're a down-to earth brainiac
Noah and Allie ( The Notebook ) You're a loyal go-getter

Who is your movie couple? Mine is Rhett and Scarlett.

And the Oscar goes to.....

ME! When I was a little girl I'd flip thru magazines and pick out the dress I would wear to accept the Oscar not for Best Actress but Best Writing - Adapted Screenplay (from my novel, of course).  Now that I'm older .... well... actually the only difference today is now I scroll through images on Google.  So let's play pretend. Which dress should I wear on Sunday, February 26?

What does your favorite superwoman say about you?

Yes - it time for another Woman's World Personality quiz!

The fictional heroine you admire most is a real reflection of our own super qualities....so who is my favorite superwoman?

Wonder Woman - duh
That means I am an exuberant charmer - I know that femininity is a strength. A talented multi-tasker I identify with her roles as hero and working woman.

Here are some others

Bionic Woman - you're a resilient self-starter
Nikita - you're a alpha nurturer
Buffy the Vampire Slayer - you're a perceptive wit
Xena - you're a wise idealist
Sydney (from Alias) - you're a resourceful smarty

Of course one has to wonder why Batgirl (my second favorite) is not on the list.... So who is your favorite?

I'm just writing a story that I want to read. Jean M. Auel

Looking forward to reading these two book. The first is Jean Auel's The Land of the Painted Caves. All I can say is FINALLY! It's the final volume of the Earth Children's series. The release date is March 29th.

This one is from the author of The Celestine Prophecy - he is the original self-published made it big authors. The Twelfth Insight puts a positive spin on the Mayan 2012 Prophecy. It's available now.

Happy International Woman's Day!

originally called International Working Women’s Day is marked on the 8th of March every year. It is a major day of global celebration of women. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements.

This is a great day for women but I’m not ashamed to admit that a few years ago I used the day to get chocolate from the men in the office at the Public Works Dept. where I worked at the time…at first they didn’t believe me there was such a day…though by the time we got back from the lunch all the ladies had a Reese Peanut Butter Cup on their desks.

Here are some quotes that celebrate woman!

"Women are the real architects of society." ~ Harriet Beecher Stowe

"If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman." ~ Margaret Thatcher

"The fastest way to change society is to mobilize the women of the world." ~ Charles Malik

"Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition." ~ Timothy Leary

"Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good. Luckily, this is not difficult." ~Charlotte Whitton

"Sure God created man before woman. But then you always make a rough draft before the final masterpiece. ~Author Unknown

New Year’s Day… now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual.
- Mark

Which is why I haven't made a true New Years resolution in years.

Without a New Years resolution I lost 10 pounds in 2010, go to the gym at least 2 a week, and haven't eaten at a McDonalds in ages. Yes, I need to work on my other dietary habits but I'm more aware of what I put in my mouth - however I do not worry on holidays because lets face facts - it's not what you eat on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Easter, and on Fourth of July that make you fat - it's all the days in between.

Without a New Years resolution I've written and submitted - not as much as I would have liked but I'm a slow writer - and I probably will have to face the fact that I'm more of a short story writer than a novelist however I'm not quite ready to give up.

Rather than resolutions for 2011 I will envision this: I will be another 10 pounds lighter by 2012 and will sit at the computer at the very least an hour day to write.

I'm lucky that this is the only issues that I feel that need improvement ( Okay - so I really should envision a cleaner house but I'd just be kidding myself).

Happy and Healthy New Year to All!!!!

"I may not have riches, but I have a rich life." - Liz Matis

In the October 18th issue of The New Yorker there is a short article by Rebecca Mead – interviewing Arne Glimcher an art gallery owner - he said something so true –

“It was a question of choosing the life you wanted to live, and I wanted a life in art. There is no chance if getting rich as an art dealer, but there was a chance of a rich life with artists.”

Wow.

Even though I have my day job as a mild manner accountant which brings in the cash, I surround myself with creative people whether it’s the wonderful woman of both my critique groups, the Woodstock Film Festival, writing conferences or attend a play my sister, the actress, is in. My son is an unemployed news producer(writer)/comedian and my husband can create just about anything with pieces of wood. And, of course, my writing where I can create my own worlds.

So you see I may not have riches but I have a rich life.

To deny women directors, as I suspect is happening in the States, is to deny the feminine vision. Jane Campion

Today I'm attending the Woodstock Film Festival for the first time. I have tickets to the panel on Amazing Women in Film and on Sunday I'm going to see Henry's Crime.

I'm so excited....I'll be more excited if I don't get lost!

Gone With The Wind on Facebook...WWSD? What would Scarlett do?

On Facebook there is a link going around which creates a Facebook thread between historical figures - you know if Facebook was around back then. It is some funny stuff and got me thinking about literary characters. So I decided to try my hand at it with Gone WIth The Wind. Now the one going around on Facebook actually looks like Facebook but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to do it myself - at least within the half-hour I allotted myself to do so - I mean I SHOULD be writing - then there were all the copyrights attached to the photos - so here is the imaginary Facebook thread I came up with. I hope you enjoy it.

Scarlett O’Hara: The boys are playing beer pong AGAIN!

Rhett: I <3 you.

Melanie Hamilton Wilkes likes this.

Scarlett O’Hara: I heart Ashley.

Melanie Hamilton Wilkes: WTF?

Rhett Butler: Face it, he’s just not that into you.

Melanie Hamilton Wilkes likes this.

Scarlett O’ Hara: Fiddle-dee-dee, like that will stop me.

Melanie Hamilton Wilkes: I thought we were BFF’s????

Rhett Butler: I’m going to chill Belle Watling’s crib.

Scarlett O’Hara: She’s a Ho!

Mammy: Miss Scarlett!

Rhett Butler: Takes one to know one.

Scarlett O’Hara: As God is my witness, I’m going to de-friend you.

Rhett Butler: Frankly my dear, I don’t give a F__K.

Scarlett O’Hara is now friends with George Clooney.

Melanie Hamilton Wilkes likes this.

Ashley Wilkes: Can someone lend me a 20 for a beer run?

What Board Game Are You?

You Are Chess

You are brilliant and shrewd. You can often predict what people will do in the future.

You thrive in complex situations. You deal with contradictions well.

You can have many streams of though going on at your mind at once. You keep track of things well.

You are very patient. You have lots of endurance, even when your energy dwindles

Yep this is me (if I do say so myself).

Quote

"I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of Library" quoted by, Jorge Luis Borges.

I agree but respectfully request God to include a Starbucks.

How about you...what is your idea of paradise?

Chuck Norris vs. Batista

Chuck Norris - of course - he's the man.
It's unfair to compare Chuck Norris's new book, Black Belt Patriotism vs Batista Unleased (he is a wrestler with the WWE).
Chuck Norris's book is about fixing what's wrong with America and Batista's is an autobiography. I enjoyed both. I learned alot from Norris's book regarding American history, which I considered myself fairly knowledgeable on. Do I agree with everything he says? No, but it's an amazing read.
Batista's book focused on his life growing up and on his rise in the WWE. It was interesting to see the in and the outs of life on the road. He is the first to say he's no angel, but all in all he seems like a good guy who tries. ( He was my inspiration for giving the hero - a football star - in my book a star-burst tattoo around his navel).

What are you reading now?
