It's in his kiss....

If you read some of my past blog posts you'll know how much I love reading and writing those first kiss scenes in romance novels. (and that Playing For Keeps won the NECRWA First Kiss Contest). So here is a cute song about the kiss...

“Aim higher in case you fall short.” ― Suzanne Collins, Catching Fire

I'm posting my goals for 2013 a few days earlier since on New Years Day I want to hit the ground running on achieving them.

The quote from Suzanne Collins is a good one. I didn't reach all my goals for 2012. In writing I reached 75% of them. Weight wise - um not so much - but I am more fit - hitting the gym to 3 to 4 times a week (until November that is - sigh).

Ok - so onto 2013.

Writing:
Finish getting the audiobook version of Love By Design up on Audible and iTunes.
Then get Going For It (Fantasy Football - Season 2) available on audio as well.
Start and finish Kiss Shot - (Fantasy Football - Season 3)
Start and finish Quarterback Sneak - (Fantasy Football - Season 4)
Plot out my spiritual/inspiration novel.
Plot out my Fantasy novella series.

Health/Fitness:
Get back to my 3 to 4 day gym schedule
Eat healthier
I'm doing this all because I want to FEEL better.

So there it is my goals for 2013. Do you think I can do it?
What are your goals?

One more quote...
“Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.”
 Louisa May Alcott

Every man prefers to look at a well-shaped woman instead of a rubber ball. Katarina Witt

Katarina Witt, winner of 2 Olympic gold medals in ice skating, is up next in my Quotes By Famous Women series.

Almost nothing is presented to you on a silver platter. You have to really work for it. Katarina Witt

I can't say, 'It doesn't matter if you win or lose.' It's not true. You go in to win. Katarina Witt

I was an athlete. And I proved I didn't win just because I was pretty. I was good, too. Katarina Witt

I'm the sort of person who needs a big mountain in front of me to climb. Katarina Witt

Six Sentence Sunday - 12/16/12

This is from my short story Real Men Don't Drink Appletini which is part of the Martini Madness Anthology available now.

Navy SEAL Grady O’Flynn wasn’t often knocked back on his heels but the bombshell in front of him knocked him back and rocked his world. She reminded him of a movie starlet from the Forties. All curves. All sass. And those baby blues? Man, they nearly had him babbling like an infant.

The part of Ryan Terell will be played by....

With that 'other' Playing For Keeps out in theaters with the sexy Gerald Butler I thought I should have my pick ready for when 'MY' Playing For Keeps is ever made into a movie.

Who plays sexy football player Ryan Terell?   Joe Manganiello.

Is there anyone else you think I should consider?

“It is not sacrifice if you love what you're doing.” Mia Hamm

It occurred to me that I never featured a female athlete in my series of Quotes of Famous Women. Hmmm...odd for someone who played basketball in high school and was 15 when Title IX passed.

So here are some quotes from Mia Hamm.

“Failure happens all the time. It happens every day in practice. What makes you better is how you react to it.” Mia Hamm

“I am building a fire, and everyday I train, I add more fuel. At just the right moment, I light the match.” Mia Hamm

"There are always new, grander challenges to confront, and a true winner will embrace each one.” Mia Hamm

"The vision of a champion is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion, when nobody else is looking.” Mia Hamm

I was watching some Tina Turner clips on You-Tube and I thought ...duh...smack on the head.... spotlight Tina on my Quotes by Famous Women series!

"I never said "Well, I don't have this and I don't have that." I said, I don't have this yet, but I'm going to get it.” Tina Turner

Love these quotes! Which is your favorite?

Tebow or Sanchez ? Who would you rather...

see as a hero in a sports romance novel?

TIM TEBOW
MARK SANCHEZ
There is much debate among New York Jet fans and the sports media about who should be playing quarterback for the New York Jets.

But as an author of two romances with football players I think the more pressing question is who would make the better romance hero - Tebow or Sanchez?

First I'll start with the stats:

                                               Tebow                     VS                               Sanchez

Height:                                    6'3"                                                               6'2"
Weight:                                   236                                                               225
Age:                                          25                                                                26
Career
Highlights:                       Winner of Heisman Trophy                   Led USC to 12-1 record
Winner of 2 NCAA National               Winner of the Rose Bowl
                                       Football Championships

Philanthrophy:                 Created the Tebow Foundation        Works with various charities

Rumored Past romances:  Camilla Belle and a dinner              The list is LONG but includes
with Taylor Swift                    the younger VS model Kate Upton
                                                                                                 and the older Eva Longoria

Other:                    'Tebowing' - official word recognized         Fan of musical theater
by the Global Language Monitor               While practicing his baseball
Looking for a girl who is sweet and kind    swing his father made him answer
and has a servants heart                          ?'s on the periodic table
                                           Religious

So we have the clean-cut, but good-looking Tim Tebow - muscular and is perhaps the better athlete against the sexy and handsome Mark Sanchez - leaner and is perhaps the better quarterback.

I'm using their backgrounds I'm doing a what if??????

AGAIN this is a conjecture I'm my part --- where the fiction starts...

Religion is a big part of Tim Tebow's life. He's a little to clean cut for some ladies - a little to good to be true, but I could give him a heroine with a past that he has to come to terms with, leading the heroine to think he's self-righteous. OR perhaps he meets a woman who is nothing like what he thought he wanted and tempts him.

hmmm...could be a interesting story...

But what about Sanchez? The typical playboy quarterback has been done before BUT who doesn't like to bring that man down to his knees by a sassy heroine who he can't live with out. Maybe dig deeper into the playboy attitude - maybe because his father was so hard on him he is acting out now - doing as he pleases. Maybe I'll match him up with an older heroine to lead him back to maturity - maybe even a dominatrix.mm.

So tell me who makes the cut as a romance novel hero? Leave a comment and let me know!

No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace As I have seen in one autumnal face. ~John Donne

I'm happy to be part of the Autumn Harvest Blog Hop!

The spectacular colors of fall, the crisp air, yummy apple cider donuts, spooky Halloween, and my favorite holiday Thanksgiving are all reasons to love Autumn.

But my number one reason to love Autumn is football season!
So in love with the game that when I decided to write romance I decided to write about a football player and I couldn't resist writing this scene in Playing For Keeps....

Ryan lifted her off the grass and they tumbled into the soft pile. Before she could catch her breath their lips met. The sound of leaves crinkling and cracking as he pressed his body against hers surrounded him. They sunk deeper into the pile. He lifted his head and licked his lips. “Mmm, you taste like cinnamon and apples.”
“I sneaked a piece of apple pie.”
“Bad girl.” He knew he should get up, but, damn, she felt so good beneath him. Damn good. “I’ve
worked up an appetite out here, I could use another taste.”

What do you like about Autumn? Leave a comment for a chance to win a copy of Playing For Keeps (print or eBook) and a set of my romance trading cards.

THEN Go to http://carrieannbloghops.blogspot.com/ to find other authors participating in the Autumn Blog Hop AND how to WIN:

My day at the 2012 Woodstock FIlm Festival.

Had a lovely day at the Woodstock Film Festival. I missed out on attending film screenings because I was at the NJRWA Conference however I didn’t miss out on the Actors Dialogue Panel.

As a writer I think it’s interesting to hear actors talk about their craft. After all they are interpreting the written word.

Every year the panel is moderated by Martha Frankel and this year’s panel of actors included Golden Globe winner, Sally Kirkland who said she listens for the music of the language.

When asked how to stay focused on a character during breaks in filming or waiting for an audition, Sally recommends (and I’m paraphrasing here) listening to a Walkman with music that relates to your character. Find something that will open your heart.

I love that advice. Some writers have playlists for different book that they listen to while writing. I listen to classical music to help me stay focused and tune out distractions.

Also, attending were John Pankow of Mad About You fame and Brian Geraghty from Jarhead and The Hurt Locker.

Side Note 1:  My sister and I stopped at Peace, Love, and Cupcakes and purchased the Food Network Winning Cupcake! Yummo!

Side Note 2:  Witnessed firemen playing with their hoses. Really. Several fighters from the Summitville Firehouse were washing fire trucks when – I SWEAR – they started spraying water at each other. Too bad they weren’t shirtless….

"The best proof of love is trust." Dr. Joyce Brothers

The next in my Quotes by Famous Women series is Dr. Joyce Brothers who, if you are not as old as me to know, is a famous psychologist, columnist, and author, appearing on many TV shows.

"Marriage is not just spiritual communion and passionate embraces; marriage is also three meals a day, sharing the workload and remembering to carry out the trash”  Dr Joyce Brothers.

“Don’t fool yourself that you are going to have it all. You are not.
Psychologically, having it all is not even a valid concept. The
marvelous thing about human beings is that we are perpetually reaching
for the stars. The more we have, the more we want. And for this
reason, we never have it all.” Dr Joyce Brothers

“Love comes when manipulation stops; when you think more about the other person than about his or her reactions to you. When you dare to reveal yourself fully. When you dare to be vulnerable.” Dr Joyce Brothers

“No matter how love-sick a woman is, she shouldn't take the first pill that comes along.” Dr Joyce Brothers

She is also had a sense of humor - check out the video below...

Tips from Supermodel Hannah Hahn from Going For It by Liz Matis

Hannah Hahn, my supermodel heroine in Going For It, has some tips for us today...

1. Fashion should be about expressing yourself - make sure your clothes don't scream slut.

2. Going on a date? Wear fabrics he'll want to touch. Like silk or cashmere.

3. There's nothing wrong with a woman making a booty call - even if he's in football training camp.

4. Fitness not famine. You can work-out anywhere. Get creative!

5. Don't be afraid to tell a man you think he's sexy.

"Honey, I'm not with him for his skills on the football field."

“Strive for excellence, not perfection, because we don't live in a perfect world.” ― Joyce Meyer

Another post in my Quotes by Famous Women series. Joyce Meyer is all over the TV on Sunday mornings but I bet you surf right over it -  I know I do - so here are some quotes that might make me stop and listen...

“We need a backbone, not a wishbone.”
Joyce Meyer

“We don't want to survive. We want to be healed.”
Joyce Meyer

“Patience is not the ability to wait but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.”
Joyce Meyer

“There are two kinds of pain: the pain of change and the pain of never changing and remaining the same.”
Joyce Meyer

Fitness not famine - Supermodel Hannah Hahn

Fitness not famine is Supermodel Hannah Hahn’s motto but she is just as insecure about her body as I am.

What? Are you kidding?

No – hear me out. When I was doing research for my supermodel heroine in Going For It I came upon an interesting fact – models ARE insecure and have body image issues!

I know I rolled my eyes too – BUT – then I thought about my body issues. Why when someone says – “Wow, you look great. Did you lose weight?” and I in return say, “Ugg, I gained 5 pounds.” or “Ugg, I still need to lose 25 pounds.”

Why do I do this? Why can’t I accept a compliment?

So I knew I had to make body image one of Hannah’s conflicts.  Can I make you feel bad for a supermodel? Well, one reader said, “You’ll want to cry when Hannah’s past with her mother is revealed.”

Here is a short excerpt of football player Jake Miller questioning Hannah’s diet.

Pulling on his briefs, then his pants, he escaped to the kitchen where another smell—an unpleasant one invaded his senses.
A grumpy Hannah looked up from a plate of steamed asparagus.
“What the hell?”

“Breakfast of Supermodels. Yum. Yum.” The grimace on her face as she took a bite said it all. “I made you coffee. I’d make you some eggs but I’m afraid I might eat them.” Waving a floppy spear of asparagus in the air she said, “This is all I can eat today. Gets rid of swelly belly.”

“Your belly is sexy.”

“The camera doesn’t think so.”
“You don’t take any pills?” He turned to pour a cup of coffee so she wouldn’t see the concern that he knew was etched on his face.
“No! I just get, get…”
“Bitchy,” he risked. Turning back he caught the narrowing of Hannah’s eyes.
“I was going to say cranky.”
Jake threw back his head and laughed.
Hannah took another bite and made a yucky face.
He should keep his mouth shut. They were getting along, laughing together, having mind blowing sex and besides it was none of his business how she ran her life. But he worried about her so he was making it his business. He took the seat across from her.              “That’s not healthy.”
“Asparagus is very healthy.”
“You know what I mean. The dieting. You’re starving yourself.”
“Oh, and you keep those 8 pack abs by drinking beer and eating donuts?”
“Food is fuel for the body. When you look at it like that it’s easy to make the right choices.”
“I’ve been making my own choices all by myself for a long time. Besides, I believe in fitness not famine.”
Hannah’s bitchy tone didn’t fool Jake because the pained look in her eyes did not escape his notice. “For how long?”
“Since I was sixteen.”
“What?” Jake nearly shouted. The thought of her so young and alone triggered every protective instinct within him. He calmed and in a gentler tone asked, “Where were your parents?”
“Look, you can just Google it. I’m sure all the sordid details are still there.”
“I’d rather hear it from you.”
The doorbell rang. “That must be my yoga instructor. Can you answer the door so I can get ready?”
“Sure, but this talk isn’t over.”

Tell me what body issues do you have?

“When anyone tells me I can't do anything, I'm just not listening any more.” Florence Griffith Joyner

As part of my Famous Women Quotes I thought in honor of the Olympics I'd share some quotes from Olympic women!

"It is better to look ahead and prepare than to look back and regret."
Jackie Joyner-Kersee

"It all comes down to having the confidence to be who you are."
Cathy Freeman

"It's better to have a rich soul than to be rich."
Olga Korbut
"They may become harder to achieve, but your dreams can't stop because you've hit a certain age or you've had a child." Dana Torres

"I am building a fire, and everyday I train, I add more fuel. At just the right moment, I light the match." Mia Hamm

Are you watching the Olympics? I am!

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.

I'm deeply troubled by the shooting last night in Colorado. So I thought today some quotes from Mother Teresa would fit into my Quotes by Famous Women series.

One of the greatest diseases is to be nobody to anybody.
Mother Teresa

The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread.
Mother Teresa

We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls. Mother Teresa

Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat.Mother Teresa

Love By Design - Magic Mike Part 2

Have you see Magic Mike yet? I haven't - not yet. My hero from Love By Design moonlights as a stripper. Last week I shared an excerpt from his point of view and this week as promised here is a short excerpt for Victoria's point of view the heroine of Love By Design.

The crowd squealed. Victoria’s mouth dropped open. What kind of miraculous material held back what she knew lay behind the thong? It defied the Law of Physics. A definite marvel of textile technology. Too bad someone went crazy with a be-dazzler because his package didn’t need any embellishment. Her fingers itched to touch but that was probably off limits. Would a bouncer come drag her off stage if she did? What if THAT made the papers? Victoria could hold off for an hour or two. Then they’d be alone and she could touch anywhere she wanted. Eat your hearts out, ladies. A smile appeared on her face and she lifted her head as her hand drifted to rest on his chest. His heart beat erratically underneath her palm. Funny, she was sure her heart had stopped. Had she even taken a breath?

If you want to read Love By Design by Liz Matis it's available in all eBook formats for only 3.49 and the paperback is 11.99.

Love By Design - Magic Mike - Part 1

Magic Mike will be in theaters June 29. I think it's about male strippers? Right?  (lol)  Are you going to see it? I think I have to - you know - for research. The things I do for my craft.

I thought I'd share a snippet from Love By Design since Russ moonlights as a stripper for the Thunder Down Under Male Revue.

Enjoy!

Riley high fived him as he came off. The MC began Russ’s introduction, “Ladies, the next man has the right tool for the job.”
The music queued. Joe Cocker’s “You Can Leave Your Hat On” blared out. Russ hit the stage, flipping the screwdriver like it was a six-shooter before holstering it in his tool belt. The sound of the women was deafening and the beat of the music was hard to discern for a moment. He slowly danced his way over to Victoria’s spot. Russ slipped off his flannel shirt inch by inch to the words wishing Victoria was taking off her clothes along with him.
Stop thinking about her. Concentrate on the performance. The spotlight followed him as he approached the VIP seating and he got an up-close look at the disguised Victoria. While she was smoking as a blonde, he disliked the violet colored contacts that hid her soul. He couldn’t tell what she was thinking. Feeling. She wasn’t screaming and hooting like the rest of the women. Did she like it? Or did she want to run out of the place? He wasn’t about to bring anyone else up. Russ was too smart to do that.
He grabbed a strategically placed chair and put it on the stage. Reaching his hand out to her, he motioned with the other for her to jump up. Her eyes widen and adamantly shook her head no, but Ava was already pushing her up.
The contact of her hand in his sent a jolt through him. He desperately wanted to escape the theater to be alone with her. Instead they were going to be exhibitionists, touching and caressing each other in front of an audience. In turned him on knowing he was going to go home with her, while everyone else thought they were strangers acting out a part.
Russ sat her down and put her hand directly onto his abs, gyrating hips as the song continued. With brows furrowed in concentration and a slight tug of her bottom lip with her teeth, Victoria explored his abs like an archaeologist unearthing a newly uncovered statue. Thank God the thong was so tight it kept his erection from being too obvious. He hoped he could still say that when his pants came off.
He smiled when she didn’t seem to know what to do next. Usually by this time the selected woman would’ve groped every part of his body, unbuckling his tool belt and letting it drop to the floor in a thud. So he went through the process himself, taking her hands along his body, then he undid the belt and held the two ends with his hands and grinded to the beat of the music. Her touch unleashed feelings in him that he did not recognize.
He wished her hands would explore lower. No wait. Bad, bad, idea. The thong could only hold so much back. He laughed as his gaze met hers. He saw lust, yes, but there was also a hint of confusion.
Did she think he picked her at random? That he was doing this to some unknown female? Perhaps thinking about those other woman he had? But what she couldn’t know was none of those other women mattered. Just her. He wanted her to enjoy the moment. Maybe it was time to let her know he recognized her. He bent down close to her ear. Felt rather than heard the catch of her breath.
     “I’d know you anywhere, cupcake.”

Maybe, next week I'll share a little bit of Victoria's POV...

"Even I don't wake up looking like Cindy Crawford." Cindy Crawford

The heroine in Going For It (released date July 1) and a secondary character in Playing For Keeps (out now) is a supermodel so I thought for this post in my Quotes by Famous Women series I'd share quotes from a real supermodel...here are some more quotes from Cindy Crawford...

Not that I believe you can have it all: I believe you can have it all, just not at the same time. Cindy Crawford

Watching your husband become a father is really sexy and wonderful. Cindy Crawford

Nobody in my family ever thought that I'd a be a model. Cindy Crawford

The face you have at age 25 is the face God gave you, but the face you have after 50 is the face you earned. Cindy Crawford

The thing I like about my body is that it's strong. I can move furniture around my apartment. I can ride my horse... I can play basketball. It's a well functioning machine. Cindy Crawford

I really like the quote about watching your husband become a father is really sexy and wonderful! Definitely heroine material!
