Guarding the Quarterback is a finalist!

I'm happy to announce that Guarding the Quarterback is a finalist in the New Jersey RWA Golden Leaf Contest in the Best Novella category! The winners will be announced on Friday, October 14 at the NJRWA conference. Here is the excerpt that will be read if I win (fingers crossed)...

With another woman I would’ve shrugged off the rejection, but beneath her hand my heart pounded for her, my blood racing to my groin. She made a mistake. Now she was more than a challenge, she made herself forbidden fruit. I told myself that all this was. A lie. But it was my lie to live.
“But I have big reason why you should.” I hauled her up against my unmistakable hardness. The utter softness of her, melded to my body. To the world she wore armor of toughness and indifference but in my arms it all fell away.
Alexa’s wicked smile signaled my victory. Then she whipped out her gun and pressed it against my cheek. “And I have a bigger reason why we shouldn’t.”

As a good luck charm I'll be wearing a book charm that an awesome reader made for me! (thanks Jackie) Below there is a picture of me wearing it...

What happens after the happy-ever-after: Going For It

Have you read Going For It yet? No? Say what? Stop everything and go read it - then come back.
For those of you who have read it - here is a special treat!
Readers fell in love with football player Jake Miller and supermodel, Hannah Hahn in Going For It. In fact one fell so hard she asked me to check in on our sexy couple. How could I refuse? I love them too! It's been almost 3 years since I released Going For It and I was surprised how easy it was to recapture Jake and Hannah fire. Enjoy!  Please let me know what you think in the comments...

(What happens after the happily-ever-after…)

Jake didn’t need the baby monitor to hear the wail of his one-year old baby girl. His daughter’s voice sounded down the hall like a nuclear power plant siren.
Hannah nudged him. “Game time,” she sleepily mumbled.
     “Can you take this one?”
“I have a shoot tomorrow. I need my beauty sleep.”
“If you get anymore beautiful I’m going to go blind,” Jake said, nuzzling her neck.
“Mmmm…good one, but that will not get you out of diaper duty.”
Jake didn’t think it would, but it was true just the same. He whipped off the covers and trudged to the nursery. Standing in her crib, Maxine sobbed as if her world was ending. Jake knew how she felt. With every whimper his heart stopped, and with every cry he died a little, but then every smile, every laugh made it all worth the constant worry and lack of sleep.
Her tears did him in. Jake was so screwed. The tiny female turned this growling two hundred and twenty-five pound bear of a running back into a cuddly Teddy bear.
Maxine’s lips wobbled as she chanted, “Dadadada. Dadadada.”
     “Shhh, baby girl, Daddy’s here.”
In a heartbeat the wobble turned into a sing-song voice. “Daddeeee. Daddeee.” Her tiny arms stretched out for him.
Jake swooped her up but resisted the urge to turn this into playtime. He hummed a nonsensical tune as he changed her diaper. She started to fuss when he headed back to the crib. “Okay, just one song.” His daughter smiled. “Okay, two songs.” Jake sat in the rocker and sang her back to sweet dreams, thinking he was the luckiest man on Earth.

                                                ***
Hannah rolled over and tried to fall back asleep, but the sounds emitting from the monitor of father and daughter bonding with a late night lullaby kept her awake. She bit her nail and smiled as she listened. Jake’s humming had immediately settled Maxine. It was like she remembered her father’s deep voice from when he hummed to her while rubbing Hannah’s swollen belly.
Unable to stay away, she tiptoed to the nursery and peeked in. Seeing her big, powerful husband lovingly hold their child in his arms, rocking back and forth as he sang Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star was sexier than anything in the world.
This tiny creature had the scariest running back in the NFL wrapped around her pinkie finger.
She snuck back to bed as Jake returned a fast asleep Maxine to her crib. Along the way Hannah slid her silk robe to the floor, then shed the tank top, and then stepped out of her black-laced panties, leaving a trail for Jake to follow like Hansel. Only Jake was no boy in a fairy tale. He was her knight-in-white-boxer-briefs. She slipped between the sheets.
Jake entered the room twirling the panties around his finger. “I thought you needed sleep.” He raised a thick black brow, which was such a sexy contrast to his smooth caramel colored-bald head.
     “I need you more.”
Jake tossed the panties over his shoulder, took off his boxers, and then covered her naked body with his, the weight of him as familiar to her as her own body. A slow, steady rush filled her. In the stolen moments during the day their lovemaking was hard and fast, but in the quiet of the night, slow and intense.
Jake rolled over to get a condom. She stayed away from birth control pills since they could put up to ten pounds on her body. Ten pounds she couldn’t afford at this point in her career. So after literally busting her butt to regain her modeling body back, she was crazy to want another baby. But that’s exactly what she was. Crazy in love and she wanted her little family to grow.
“No, don’t.” She reached out and pulled Jake back to her.
     “I thought—
“I want Maxi to have a brother to boss around.”
Jake’s wide smile still caused her heart to flutter.
“It would be nice to even the score around here.”
     “Ha! You love it.”
     “I do at that.”
“Good. Now, give me that rosy, after sex glow to make up for missing sleep.”
“Hannah, you’re going break the lens with the glow I’m going to give you.”
His lips descended on hers. With a smoking kiss that would leave a blush on her face for hours and every time she relived it in her minds eye, Hannah knew she was the luckiest woman alive.

Miss Congeniality meets The Bodyguard - Guarding the Quarterback

Tuesday - April, 19, 2016 is release day for Guarding the Quarterback!

Order now!  Kindle

Here is the blurb along with some photo teasers!
Alexa Reeves
The quarterback of the NY Kings has a body to die for, and as Dean Walker's bodyguard I'm right in the line of fire. If that's not dangerous enough, I'm posing as his girlfriend to keep close. Yet, that isn't the worst part. He says I need a makeover to pass as his arm candy. Jerk. The more time I spend with him, the more my undercover role blurs with reality, and I'll lose more than my job if I step over the line and into his bed.
Dean Walker
Let's get something straight. I didn't ask for protection, especially in the form of a female. Isn't a death threat just another day in the life of a NY quarterback? Still, the owner of the team forces me to accept a security detail led by the tiny but tough Alexa Reeves.
But who is the real Alexa? The bodyguard, sworn to protect me, or the made-over vixen, determined to drive me crazy? As the stalker closes in, I realize I've put more than my life in her hands. Will Alexa safeguard my heart as fiercely as my body?

And the Oscar goes to... 2016 edition

It's my annual post where I ask: What gown should I wear to the Academy Awards! - you know if I was nominated.
I select four gowns and then you weigh in on your favorite. I look forward to doing this post all year. I  love watching all the red carpets!

So help a girl out. What should a wear?

Option 1 - This is not practical for me since my boobs would probably spill out and I'm not fond of the size of my arms.
Option 2: This is probably more age appropriate...
Option #3 - Tell hell with age and knock them dead in red!
Option 4: Go to black gown.

Makeovers at home and in my writing...

I'm in the process of updating the outside of our house. We took down a huge tree that after 25plus years had torn up the driveway. It was a beautiful tree and I hugged it before it was cut down. But it was a good thing we did. The tree was rotting on the inside. So better a controlled cut down versus it falling on the house. My husband wanted the driveway widen and it led to this...

The driveway is now leveled and graveled and next week the blacktop will go in. My husband is building a retaining wall. I'll post pics when its done.

Meanwhile, I'm starting a new series called Champions of the Heart. The genre is still sports romance  but I'm building the series so I can write about the other sports that I love. The series will focus on the New York sports scene. The first book will be about football though. The team, the New York Kings are the cross town rivals of my Fantasy Football Romance series, the New York Cougars - kind of like the Giants and Jets of NY. I thought it would be a nice bridge between the two series!

And along with my makeovers at home and in my books - the heroine of my next book, Alexa Reeves will also be getting a makeover!

I'm really excited about this book and Champions of the Heart!

Do you ever get restless to start over? Or to make over a room in your house?

Men Decoded

I been a bad, bad blogger, but I've been writing Summer Dreaming, which releases August 4, 2015! And then there is my day job as a mild-mannered accountant!

So today I'm bring back an old, but popular post about writing the male POV...

Even though my male Peruvian dance instructor reads/writes poetry, says that East of Eden reminds him of Thanksgiving and writes things on Facebook like, “When I’m with you, there is a million dances but not enough songs.” and “Fingerprints that you left in my soul.” he will then post as his Facebook status:
Counting sheep is boring…. one Playmate, two Playmates….

As a female writing from the male point of view you need to remember that
men like sex. Men think about sex. All the time.

What else do you need to know? You need to decode what men say.

For instance below are the results from a Men’s Health magazine survey that asked men to list of The Top 5 Qualities Men Want in a Wife.

And as a public service to women writers I will decode this list – what these men are really thinking are in the parenthesis.

The Top 5 Qualities Men Want in a Wife Decoded:

1. Financial Savvy (will not spend more than $100 on a single item of clothing – including shoes and handbags)

2. Independent (has her own stuff going on so she won’t notice if I go out with the guys for a beer)

3. Intelligent (knows not to walk in front of the TV or talk during a game)

4. Loyal (will not disclosed embarrassing info about him to her girlfriends/family)

5. Sexually Adventurous (will have sex more than once a week)

So there you have it – men decoded.

Here’s a sample from Playing For Keeps - Fantasy Football Romance (Season 1)
Once seated, Ryan did his best with small talk as dinner was served. Having Jake and Hannah act as chaperones helped. It kept him from jumping Samantha, who at the moment seemed to be interested in the intricacies of her place setting, leaving her dinner plate untouched.
     “You’re not eating,” commented Ryan.
“I’m supposed to tell you I’m not hungry, but I’d be lying. The truth is, my dress is ready to bust at the seams.”
Bust. He couldn’t help it. Really, he couldn’t. His eyes dropped to the material straining against her full breasts. An amber necklace fell just above her cleavage like a sign saying ‘This Way’. Would he be a complete degenerate if he silently wished for the fabric to give way? No, he didn’t think so. He was being a man. That’s what men did, they wished, fantasized, and dreamt of sex. Statistics proved it. Who was he to fight Mother Nature?
      “Ryan?”
Whoops, caught in the act. “Just admiring your necklace.” Taking a sip of water, he looked across the table at Jake.
“By the look on your face you want to be my necklace.”

He choked on the water as a laugh threatened to burst out. If he wasn’t mistaken she was flirting with him and he responded in kind. “Or your dress.”

1 Day - Countdown Spotlight - The Sport of Romance with Liz Matis

1 day until The Sport of Romance releases! - You can pre-order it now for only 99cents! Yes, 10 books, 10 authors, 1 Hot Price! (Links below)

Each day until release day, I'll be spotlighting a teaser snippet from one of the books included.

Day 1: Huddle Up by Liz Matis

Angel nodded towards the door. Once they were in the hallway, she touched his arm. “I’m sorry about earlier.”
Billy looked down at the hand on his bicep. He flexed the muscle.
     “Oh,” she gasped.
“What are you exactly sorry about?” He stepped closer, brushing his fingers along her cheek. “Being interrupted?”
“Yes, I mean, no.” Angel backed away.
But he persisted, backing her up against the closed door of her room. His fingers threaded through her long black hair. “Do you remember the first time we kissed?”
     “No, I mean, yes.”
Billy captured her breathless whisper in a gentle kiss. Her lips tasted like heaven and sugar. Angel’s hands rested unsure upon his chest as if ready to ward him off, and then they slid around his body as she melted into him. His body hardened. His blood raged for more, but still he kept the kiss soft, unwilling to ruin the sweetness of the moment.
He had a choice. Play the short game for instant gratification or the long game for the win. The long game took patience and that was a game strategy Billy had never excelled at, but to win Angel, he’d learn some new moves. He pulled away. Looking into her eyes he read the emotion there and knew he made the right call. Trust.
     “Goodnight, Angel.”

Walking into his bedroom he realized it was only nine. Unless he wanted to run into Angel and test his new found patience, he was in a prison of his own making. At least he had cable.

Countdown Spotlight - Day 4 - The Sport of Romance - with Cari Quinn

FOUR days until The Sport of Romance releases! - You can pre-order it now for only 99cents! Yes, 10 books, 10 authors, 1 Hot Price! (Links below)

Each day until release day, I'll be spotlighting a teaser snippet from one of the books included.

Day 4 - Shadowboxer by Cari Quin

I dragged her against my chest and tipped back her face with my thumb on her chin. I’d had enough of her amusement at my expense. “Open up.” I swept my tongue between her lips, silencing
her brief protest.
Then I was inside her, if only in this insignificant way. The cold night disappeared. Everything did but the warm mouth that parted eagerly beneath mine.
Her rumbling moan vibrated through me and made me lightheaded. Need spiked low in my belly, causing a surge of blood into my cock that demanded more than our testing brush of tongues. Forward, retreat. I wanted to rake my teeth over the fullness of her lips, but they were cut. I didn’t want to hurt her while I was giving her pleasure.
Unless she wanted me to.
Despite my hesitation, she didn’t hold anything back. She fisted her fingers in my shirt and pulled me down. And in. I was drowning in her taste, cinnamon and mint. The combination didn’t go together. I was used to girls tasting like fruit or candy. She was more tart than sweet. More hard than soft. Her body yielded in my arms, but her tongue only became more aggressive, almost daring me to keep up.
Why did that turn me on so damn much?
She moaned again when I got rougher than I’d intended, and I immediately drew back. “Sorry,” I mumbled, fairly certain I’d never apologized after a kiss before. Her heavy lids lifted and she smoothed the tip of her tongue over her bottom lip. I couldn’t help the groan that escaped me. “Dammit, Mia, don’t do that when I’m trying to be honorable.”

Countdown Spotlight - Day 5 - The Sport of Romance - with CM Doporto

FIVE days until The Sport of Romance releases! - You can pre-order it now for only 99cents! Yes, 10 books, 10 authors, 1 Hot Price! (Links below)

Each day until release day, I'll be spotlighting a teaser snippet from one of the books included.

Day 5: Opposing Sides by CM Doporto
I stepped out of the director’s office and entered the main area. Standing in all his six foot two glory was the star quarterback of our universities’ football team. I had never seen him in person, and I
felt like a midget looking up at him.  Even though I didn’t know him personally, I’d heard and read enough about him to know he was a womanizer and had a drug problem.
Another reason why I shouldn’t help him.
“Hi, I’m Lexi Thompson and I’ve been asked to consult with you.” I made it clear that it wasn’t my choice to help him.
“Lexi. Hmm, I like that name.”
Uh, no you don’t.
His full lips spread, revealing the most charming smile, coupled with a deep dimple on the right. Now I knew why every girl fell for him.  But I was smarter than that. “I’m Raven.” He stalled for a moment, his eyes giving me a thorough exam to the point that I bet he knew what color my panties were. “Raven Davenport.” He ran a hand over his short buzz cut, and he looked like the perfect model for an Abercrombie and Fitch ad. Minus his T-shirt.
He was toxic and smelled of sex and drugs. Well, not that I knew what all that smelled like, but his aura beamed bright red warning me to be careful.
“Are you ready to get started? Because we only have an hour.” I held out my hand, motioning to a small table in the corner.
“That’s plenty of time.” He raised his brows.
I rolled my eyes and walked to the table. Taking a seat, I took out the agreement that Dr. Philips prepared. I signed my name, and moved the papers in front of him. “Please sign this.”
Raven leaned over the table. “I was thinking you might want to do this somewhere private.” A seductive grin spread across his lips as he pressed his weight against it, as if testing the durability of the wood.
My jaw dropped. Was he serious? My fiancé didn’t even tease me that way. Although that would’ve been nice. Then again, we hadn’t even made out on a bed much less on a table. I had to restrain myself from slapping him.
“Excuse me, Mr. Davenport?”
He pulled out a chair and sat down. “You can call me Raven.”  I guess by the tone in my voice he knew I meant business.
“Please read the agreement, and let me know if you have any questions. I indicated we would meet twice a week for an hour and more if a mutual agreement can be established.”
“Okay. Sounds fair. Do you have a pen?” He held out his hand. His long fingers curled up in a perfect cup. A hand that was made for a football and caressing various female parts.
Whoa! Where did that come from?
Extending my hand, I gave him my pen. He eased it from my fingertips in a gentle motion. “Thank you, Lexi.”
He signed the paper and handed it back to me.
“Aren’t you going to read it?”
Shaking his head, he said, “No, I trust you.”
“But you don’t even know me.”
“Not yet.” His green eyes sparkled. “But my gut tells me we’re going to get to know each other real well.”
It was obvious why Lisa didn’t want to work with him. I made a mental note to call her the second he left. I sucked in a quick breath and let it out to clear my head. “Whatever.” With haste I removed my Hodge’s Harbrace Handbook and another pen from my backpack. I opened the folder Dr. Philips gave me and took out his papers.
“I reviewed your file and—”
“You and everybody else.” His head lowered and his shoulders sunk.
I continued, unsure of how to handle the comment. “I have an idea of where you need the most help with your writing.”
His head popped up and a layer of relief removed the downward slope of his lips. “You do?”
“Yes. I think we should start with some grammar basics.” I opened the book to the first chapter and moved it between us. I placed one of his papers below the book, prepared to show him examples so he could relate easily to the concepts. “I’ll give you a quick and dirty overview of the parts of speech to start off.”
He moved his chair closer to me, and a fresh sent of juniper and bergamot swept over me. The guy smelled like a cologne insert from one of my magazines, and I tried hard not to breathe it in. But the more I tried not to, the more I loved the smell.
Darn, I wish Collin smelled that good.
He flashed me a grin. “I like it quick and dirty.”
I wanted to slap myself. Could I have used a poorer word choice? “I’m sure you do Raven. I mean, you’re a guy and a football player.”
“True,” a half smile formed, “but not every guy likes to do things quickly or get messy doing them.”
A rush of heat inundated me. I yanked a hair band off my wrist and pulled my hair up in a messy bun. I raised the sleeves on my shirt and braced myself.
I’ll be damned if I let this jerk get to me.
Ignoring his comment, I pressed forward with my instruction. Raven listened intently and nodded his head while asking related questions. When the guy wasn’t being a big flirt, he was actually pleasant to be around.  I felt sorry for him because he had gone through school without learning grammar rules. Then again, most people never make it a point to learn them and base everything on how people talk. No wonder the guy couldn’t write a proper sentence. The weird thing was his verbal skills seemed fine, but his written skills, well, that was another story.
Helping him might not be so bad after all.
After forty minutes of reviewing grammar syntax, he began to lose interest. He shifted his weight and yawned a few times, stretching his arms that nearly wrapped around me. I scooted to the edge of my chair, praying he wouldn’t rest his elbow behind me. Before he lowered his arms, his phone buzzed. His eyes widened with delight as he looked at the screen.
“Excuse me, I need to take this call.”
“Um, no, you can’t.” I pointed to a sign on the wall. “Policy says—”
“Hey baby, what’s up?” He answered the phone, ignoring me and the rule of no talking on the phone in the writing center.
He rambled about his schedule and practice for a minute or so before shifting gears. I contemplated if I should get up and tell Dr. Phillips. That would mean instant removal from the writing center and I wouldn’t have to help him. Then again it probably wouldn’t matter because the coach had called in a favor. I started to stand but stopped when the lure of his voice made it too hard to resist listening to his conversation. His smitten words rolled off his tongue and he sounded like Eros himself. Warmth rose from my belly, and I turned around to see who else was in the center. Luckily, Sara had already left and Kyler was talking to a student and not paying much attention.
Raven was having phone sex with the girl he was talking to!
Visuals flashed through my mind, and my face burned hearing the words he spoke. I covered my ears but it didn’t help. My heart raced, and my breath quickened. I shifted in my chair, crossing my legs tightly until my feet went numb.
“Yeah, baby, right there.” He winked at me.
I gasped. “I’ll be right back.” I rushed out of the room and headed straight for the bathroom.
Closing the door to the lounge located next to the stalls, I paced the small room as I fanned myself. Being a virgin, I had never come close to experiencing anything so dirty but sensual at the same time. And the worst part, it wasn’t even directed at me! The guy was blessed with sexual creativity. Why the heck didn’t he use some of that imagination and gear that toward his school work?
Sure, I had read those types of sex scenes in romance books, but it was entirely different hearing them firsthand. Well, second hand in this case. But nonetheless, I had just become hyper aware of tingles and sensations caused by an actual human being.
By a guy that was sitting next me.
And the saddest part, it wasn’t Collin.
I sighed as I collapsed onto the cushioned bench. The situation wasn’t good, and every warning light was flashing.

Reason number 3 — don’t lust over something that isn’t yours.
